Martin Luther King, Jr said, ââ¬Å"There is no greater reward than to make a fundamental difference in someoneââ¬â¢s lifeâ⬠. To me, Social work is a profession that involves helping individuals, families and others who need assistance. Knowing that I would someday help people makes me feel happy and fulfilled. I have been a student of the BSW program for some months now and this is the end of the first semester. Throughout these few months, I have grown and learnt more than I thought I would. Working with various populations would widen my horizons and improve my professional skills. In one of the lectures by Bree Akeeson, we talked about the medical and social model of the disability model. As a clinical social worker, I am meant to follow the medical model but I feel that using both the social and medical model in my practice is the right thing to do. This is because people need medical help but at the same time, they need the care and mixing the two models is the best way to improve my skills.
